Cutin is a waxy-water repellent substance in the cuticle of plants , consisting of highly polymerised esters of fatty acids. Its main function is protection of underlying layers , Desert plants have an excess of cutin on their leaves so as to prevent loss of water by transpiration.

What is epidermis tissue class 9?

Epidermis Simple Tissues: Epidermis tissue covers the entire body of plant. They protect plant from injury, germs and water loss. Cells of epidermal tissue form a continuous layer without intercellular spaces. ... Each stomata is composed of two guard cells which regulate the opening and closing of stomata.

What is the function of ground tissue?

Ground tissue carries out different functions based on the cell type and location in the plant, and includes parenchyma (photosynthesis in the leaves, and storage in the roots), collenchyma (shoot support in areas of active growth), and schlerenchyma (shoot support in areas where growth has ceased)is the site of ...

What is the main function of the epidermis in plants?

Epidermis, in botany, outermost, protoderm-derived layer of cells covering the stem, root, leaf, flower, fruit, and seed parts of a plant. The epidermis and its waxy cuticle provide a protective barrier against mechanical injury, water loss, and infection.

What is the epidermis?

What is found in the epidermis?

The epidermis consists of stratified squamous epithelium. That means it consists of layers of flattened cells. Skin, hair and nails are keratinised, meaning they have a dead and hardened impermeable surface made of a protein called keratin. Mucous membranes are non-keratinised and moist.

What are three functions of the epidermis?

The skin has three main functions: protection, regulation and sensation.

What are the five layers of the epidermis?

The layers of the epidermis include the stratum basale (the deepest portion of the epidermis), stratum spinosum, stratum granulosum, stratum lucidum, and stratum corneum (the most superficial portion of the epidermis).

What happens when the epidermis is damaged?

When an injury extends through the epidermis into the dermis, bleeding occurs and the inflammatory response begins. Clotting mechanisms in the blood are soon activated, and a clot of scab is formed within several hours.

Which is animal tissue?
