Airspeed indicators have a standard color-coded marking system. The white arc is the full flap operating range. The lower limit of the white arc is the power-off stalling speed (also called VS0) with the flaps and landing gear in their landing positions (that is, flaps fully extended and landing gear down and locked.)

What color identifies Never exceed speed?

Airspeed limitations are shown on the airspeed indicator (ASI) by color coding and on placards or graphs in the aircraft. [Figure 9-1] A red line on the ASI shows the airspeed limit beyond which structural damage could occur. This is called the never-exceed speed (VNE).

Which Colour identifies the normal flap operating range?

(Refer to figure 4.) Which color identifies the normal flap operating range? A) The white arc.

What does the red line on the airspeed indicator represent?

3264. What does the red line on an airspeed indicator represent? A- Maneuvering speed.

What is the lower limit of the white arc?

Lower limit of white arc (VS0): The stalling speed or the minimum steady flight speed in the landing configuration. In small airplanes, this is the power-off stall speed at the maximum landing weight in the landing configuration (gear and flaps down).

What is a stall?

What is the maximum flap extended speed?

Acronym: VFE. Represented by the top of the white arc on the airspeed indicator, VFE is the maximum flap extended speed. If you allow your airspeed to increase above VFE with flaps extended, you may damage or even lose one or both flaps.

What is V speed in aviation?

The US Federal Aviation Administration defines it as: "the maximum speed in the takeoff at which the pilot must take the first action (e.g., apply brakes, reduce thrust, deploy speed brakes) to stop the airplane within the accelerate-stop distance.

Which instrument will become inoperative?

Which instrument(s) will become inoperative if the static vents become clogged? The altimeter, airspeed indicator, and vertical speed indicator.

Is it OK to exceed VNO?

Vno doesn't need to be treated as a Vne (never exceed) speed, because your airplane is certified to fly within that range under the right conditions. As long as you're cautious, you won't damage the aircraft.

What is the never exceed speed?

V_NE is defined on Page 10-17 of the Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge as "the speed which should never be exceeded. If flight is attempted above this speed, structural damage or structural failure may result."

What is VS0 speed?

VS0 means the stalling speed or the minimum steady flight speed in the landing configuration. VS1 means the stalling speed or the minimum steady flight speed obtained in a specific configuration. VSR means reference stall speed. VSRO means reference stall speed in the landing configuration.

What is purpose of wing flaps?

Wing flaps change the shape of the airplane wing. They divert the air around the wing as necessary. The setting of the flap determines whether they are used to increase lift (as on takeoff) or increase drag (used on landing.)

What action is required when two aircraft of the same category converge but not head on?

C - An aircraft on final approach to land. What action is required when two aircraft of the same category converge, but not head-on? A - The faster aircraft shall give way.

What is the maximum structural cruising speed?

Maximum structural cruising speed — the highest speed that you can safely fly in smooth air — is shown as the upper limit of the green arc on the airspeed indicator. If you fly above VNO — in the yellow arc or “caution range” — and you encounter air that is not smooth, you could cause damage to the aircraft.

What does the V mean in V speeds?

Your Aviation Acronym Decoder begins with some talk about Velocity. V is for Speed. The “V” is from the French word 'Vitesse' which means 'speed' or 'rate'. Important aviation Airspeeds are identified and defined using standard terms. Scientists and Engineers refer to Airspeeds as 'V' Speeds.

What is V1 and V2 on takeoff?

A: V1 is the speed by which time the decision to continue flight if an engine fails has been made. It can be said that V1 is the "commit to fly" speed. V2 is the speed at which the airplane will climb in the event of an engine failure. It is known as the takeoff safety speed.

What is minimum maneuvering speed?

DMMS: Defined minimum maneuvering speed.

This is similar to the speed that airline pilots polled in the video are referencing when they talk about maneuvering speed being a minimum, not a maximum. Gryder calculates the number as 1.404 times V_S, to account for a margin above stall speed in up to a 30-degree bank.

What is VX and VY?

Vx is the speed where you have the most excess force (thrust), and Vy is the speed where you have the most excess power (horsepower).

Why does maneuvering speed change with weight?

Maneuvering speed is based on the airplane being at gross weight. ... Less lift means the airplane can be flown at a smaller angle of attack. In other words, an airplane at 2,500 pounds may require a 4.5 degree angle of attack at 110 knots to remain in level flight.

What is the purpose of horizontal situation indicator?

The horizontal situation indicator (commonly called the HSI) is an aircraft flight instrument normally mounted below the artificial horizon in place of a conventional heading indicator. It shows the heading, course, bearings and the lateral deviation of an aircraft.

What does slaved HSI mean?

The Horizontal Situation Indicator (HSI) instrument display combines continuously slaved aircraft heading information and VOR/LOC/GPS/GS displays in one unit.

What does a vertical speed indicator do?

A Vertical Speed Indicator (VSI), also known as a Rate of Climb and Descent Indicator (RCDI) is an instrument which indicates the rate of climb or descent of an aircraft.
