Snuffing Steam System: One of the methods is the elimination of required air for combustion process. In the emergency situation the steam is injected to the heater convection zone. There are lots of steam nozzles in different location which will start to spray the steam and flame out the heater burners.

What is snuffing steam used for?

Snuffing steam is STEAM; it is not water, CO2, or any liquid. Most likely, it comes from a boiler or a waste heat steam generator. It is used to "snuff" or put out an unwanted fire, and it does this by excluding air from the area where the potential fuel is located. (To some degree, it will also carry away heat.)

What is bridge wall temperature?

The Bridge wall temperature with conventional burners is estimated as 1,560°F as compared to 1,620°F with Ultra Low NOx burners.

What are shock tubes in a heater?

The first two rows of convection tubes that the flue gas passes over are called the “shock tubes” or “shield rows.” As these rows are closest to the radiant section, and likely exposed to radiant energy, they are bare.

How does a fired heater work?

Fired heaters rely on the flow of process fluids through the tubes to keep tube and firebox temperature down. If the temperature of the process fluid leaving the heater falls the control system calls for more fuel to be fed to the burners.

Inhaling Steam Does This To Your Body

What is the purpose of a shock tube?

The shock tube is an instrument used to replicate and direct blast waves at a sensor or a model in order to simulate actual explosions and their effects, usually on a smaller scale.

What is Arch in fired heater?

arch – flat or sloped portion of the heater radiant section opposite the floor. convection section – portion of the heater in which the heat is transferred to the tubes primarily by. convection. crossover – inter-connecting piping between any two heater-coil sections.

What is a charge heater?

Hannu Jääskeläinen. Abstract: Heating charge air is an important measure to ensure reliable cold starting, and to reduce white smoke and unburned hydrocarbon emissions. Intake air heating can be provided in-cylinder with glow plugs or in the intake system with electrical heaters or flame-type heaters.

What is the Bridgewall?

: a low separating wall usually of firebrick in a furnace especially : such a wall in a reverberatory furnace.

What snuffing means?

Meaning of snuffing in English

to put out a flame, especially from a candle, usually by covering it with something: One by one she snuffed the candles.

What is steam curtain?

Abstract. Steam curtain equipment is used to prevent leaking flammable gases from reaching ignition sources, such as furnaces. However, steam curtains are sometimes designed badly and are ineffective for preventing the leaking gas from spreading in the windward direction.

What is convection section?

[kən′vek·shən ‚sek·shən] (engineering) That portion of the furnace in which tubes receive heat from the flue gases by convection.

Which section of the furnace has the highest temperature?

The top of the furnace is referred to as the convection section because most of the heat it receives is by convection. Combustion is a rapid chemical reaction that occurs when proper amounts of fuel and oxygen come into contact with an ignition source and release heat and light.

What happens when too much excess air is supplied to the furnace in the process of combustion of coal?

What happens when too much excess air is supplied to the furnace in the process of combustion of coal? ... If the excess air is supplied above this amount, there is a loss of heat in the furnace. In such cases, the supply of air to the hearth is cut short or the rate of fuel supply is increased.

What is a grid heater?

The grid heater is between the intake elbow and the intake manifold. It's just a big resistor that heats up when current is applied across it and thus heats the incoming air charge until cylinder and engine temps get up to operating temperature.

What is a convection space heater?

Convection heaters provide gradual, even heat throughout a room using a relatively low level of energy. To heat a space, each convection heater circulates convection currents throughout the heater body and across a heating element—such as oil, an electric coil, or an electric wire.

What is radiant coil?

Radiant coil

This is a series of tubes horizontal/ vertical hairpin type connected at ends (with 180° bends) or helical in construction. The radiant coil absorbs heat through radiation. They can be single pass or multi pass depending upon the process-side pressure drop allowed.

Is fired heater a heat exchanger?

We define a fired heater as a direct-fired heat exchanger that uses hot combustion gases (flue gases) to raise the temperature of a process fluid flowing through the coils arranged inside the heater. ... Radiation and convection are the two primary means of heat transfer that occur inside a fired heater.

What does a heater do in a refinery?

Process heaters are widely used in petroleum refineries, where they are called refinery heaters. Process heaters are used to transfer heat generated by the combustion of fuels to a fluid other than water contained in tubes. This fluid may either be process fluid or a heat transfer fluid.

Is furnace a heater?

A heater is really just a catch all term for a device that heats up an environment. ... Essentially, a furnace or boiler is the mechanism that produces the heat that your central heating system will then distribute to keep your home warm.

Is shock tube an explosive?

Shock tube contains highly explosive material. However, it may be stored as a low explosive when not attached to a detonator.

What is a shock tube wind tunnel?

Shock Tunnel: It consists of two major parts, the shock tube and the wind tunnel portion. ... The shock tube works on the principle of using a high-pressure gas in the driver tube to set up a shock wave, which propagates into the low pressure gas in the driven tube at the instant of diaphragm rupture.

What is the contact surface in a shock tube?

The moving boundary between the shock-processed fluid and the expanded fluid is called a contact surface. The conditions across the contact surface are constant pressure and constant velocity. The incident shock wave travels all the way along the test section until it reflects off of the end wall.

What is the third component in the furnace called?

Forced draft. The third category of furnace is the forced draft, mid-efficiency furnace with a steel heat exchanger and multi-speed blower.

Which tubes are located above the shock bank?

a furnace that uses two fans to facilitate airflow through the stack and one providing positive pressure to the burners. a device used to introduce distribute and mix air, fuel, and flame in the firebox. furnace tubes located above the shock bank , that receive heat through convection.
