• Clavicle bone. The clavicle or collarbone is an S-shaped bone situated at the front of your body in a horizontal position. ...
• Scapula bone. ...
• Pectoral girdle joints.

What bones make up the pectoral girdle quizlet?

The Pectoral (shoulder) Girdle is part of the appendicular skeleton and consists of the clavicle and scapula posteriorly.

What are the three bones of the pectoral girdle?

The shoulder girdle or pectoral girdle is the set of bones in the appendicular skeleton which connects to the arm on each side. In humans it consists of the clavicle and scapula; in those species with three bones in the shoulder, it consists of the clavicle, scapula, and coracoid.

Which bones make up the pectoral girdle and the pelvic girdle?

The appendicular skeleton consists of the pectoral and pelvic girdles, the limb bones, and the bones of the hands and feet. The pectoral girdle consists of the clavicle and the scapula, which serve to attach the upper limb to the sternum of the axial skeleton.

What part is the pectoral girdle?

Each part of the pectoral girdle consists of a scapula and clavicle. The glenoid cavity is a shallow, pyriform articular surface, which is situated on the lateral angle of the scapula. It articulates with the humerus to shape the shoulder joint. Thus the glenoid cavity is a part of the pectoral girdle.

Clavicle and Scapula Anatomy: The Pectoral Girdle

Why is the pectoral girdle weak?

The pectoral girdle is weaker than the pelvic girdle because the pelvic girdle is the primary weight-bearing and locomotion structure for the body...

Which bones form the pelvic girdle?

In discussing the pelvis, a distinction can be made between the "pelvic spine" and the "pelvic girdle." The pelvic girdle, also known as the os coxae, Latin for “bone of the hip,” consists of the fused bones identified individually as the ilium, ischium, and pubis.

What is pectoral and pelvic girdle?

The shoulder girdle or the pectoral girdle is a set of 4 bones which connects to the arm on each side. The pelvic girdle consists of two bones: sacrum and the coccyx. ... In human beings, the pectoral girdle consists of the scapula and the clavicle. The pelvic girdle is located in the lower part of the trunk.

How many pelvic girdle do humans have?

The pelvic girdle, as I said above, is made up of three fused bones: the ischium, the ilium, and the pubis. The pubis forms the anterior part of the pelvic girdle.

Do children have more bones than adults?

Babies have more bones than adults. Children's bones are continuously growing. Kids' bones are more flexible than adults' bones.

Which bone in your body is the longest?

The longest bone in the human body is called the femur, or thigh bone.

Why pelvic girdle is more stable than the pectoral girdle?

The pelvic girdle allows greater mobility than the pectoral girdle. ... The pelvic girdle is more firmly attached to the axial skeleton than the pectoral girdle in order to provide the stability needed to support the weight of the upper body.

Which two bones compose the shoulder girdle group answer choices?

The shoulder girdle is composed of the clavicle and the scapula, which articulates with the proximal humerus of the upper limb. Four joints are present in the shoulder: the sternoclavicular (SC), acromioclavicular (AC), and scapulothoracic joints, and glenohumeral joint.

What is the small bump often called the funny bone?

But there's one spot at your elbow where this nerve is unusually exposed, and that spot is called your funny bone. At this point in your arm, your ulnar nerve passes through your cubital tunnel, which runs underneath the little bony bump (called the medial epicondyle) on the inside of the back of your elbow.

How is bone repair different from bone development?

Appositional growth is the increase in the diameter of bones by the addition of bone tissue at the surface of bones. Bone remodeling involves the processes of bone deposition by osteoblasts and bone resorption by osteoclasts. Bone repair occurs in four stages and can take several months.

What is the difference between pelvic girdle and pelvis?

The pelvic girdle (hip girdle) is formed by a single bone, the hip bone or coxal bone (coxal = “hip”), which serves as the attachment point for each lower limb. ... The bony pelvis is the entire structure formed by the two hip bones, the sacrum, and, attached inferiorly to the sacrum, the coccyx (Figure 1).

Are pelvic and pelvis the same?

The pelvis (plural pelves or pelvises) is either the lower part of the trunk of the human body between the abdomen and the thighs (sometimes also called pelvic region of the trunk) or the skeleton embedded in it (sometimes also called bony pelvis, or pelvic skeleton).

Is pelvic girdle stronger than pectoral girdle?

Unlike the bones of the pectoral girdle, which are highly mobile to enhance the range of upper limb movements, the bones of the pelvis are strongly united to each other to form a largely immobile, weight-bearing structure.

What are 3 common injuries to the pelvic girdle?

• The pelvis.
• Types of pelvic injury.
• Anterior-posterior (AP) compression fractures.
• Lateral compression injury.
• Vertical shear injury.
• Complex pattern injury.
• Treatment of pelvic injuries.

What is the function of pelvic bones support the body when you?

The pelvis provides attachment for muscles that balance and support the trunk and move the legs, the hips, and the trunk.

Which bone is part of the pelvic girdle quizlet?

The Pelvic Girdle is formed by a pair of hip bones "Coxal bone". Each hip bone unties with its partner anteriorly and with the sacrum posteriorly. The Ilium is the large superior region of the coxal bone. It is the flaring bone.

What is the purpose of the pectoral girdle?

Your pectoral girdles are responsible for providing structural support to your shoulder region on the left and right side of your body. They also allow for a large range of motion, connecting muscles necessary for shoulder and arm movement.

What is the longest bone of the pectoral girdle?

The humerus is the largest and longest bone of the upper limb and the only bone of the arm. It articulates with the scapula at the shoulder and with the forearm at the elbow.

What is the difference between shoulder girdle and shoulder joint?

Both are a part of the shoulder girdle. ... The acromion is an extension of the shoulder blade (scapula). The shoulder joint (also called the glenohumeral joint) is formed between the upper arm bone (humerus) and its socket (the glenoid fossa), which is also an extension of the shoulder blade.
