Immediately below the glenoid cavity is a rough impression, the infraglenoid tubercle (infraglenoid tuberosity), about 2.5 cm. in length, which gives origin to the long head of the Triceps brachii.

Where is the Supraglenoid tubercle?

At the apex of the margin of the glenoid cavity is a slight elevation, the supraglenoid tubercle (supraglenoid tuberosity), to which the long head of the Biceps brachii is attached.

Which muscle is attached to the infraglenoid tubercle?

Triceps brachii muscle has three heads. The long head originates from the infraglenoid tubercle of the scapula; the lateral head from the upper half of the posterior surface of the shaft of the humerus and the medial head from the posterior surface of the lower half of the shaft of the humerus.

Is Supraglenoid tubercle palpable?

An invagination of the shoulder joint forms the bicipital bursa. Distal to the bicipital groove, the tendon blends into the spindle-shaped biceps brachii muscle. The biceps tendon is easily palpable within the bicipital groove, just medial to the prominent greater tubercle at the cranial aspect of the shoulder.

Which rotator cuff muscle is not palpable?

Which rotator cuff muscle belly is not palpable? teres major o Palpate just inferior to the teres minor for the belly of this muscle. Bottom 0 superior angle of the scapula Soft tissue may obstruct palpation of this structure.

The Scapula

What is the origin of brachialis?

The brachialis originates from the anterior surface of the distal half of the humerus, near the insertion of the deltoid muscle, which it embraces by two angular processes. Its origin extends below to within 2.5 cm of the margin of the articular surface of the humerus at the elbow joint.

What is a tubercle in anatomy?

A tubercle is a small rounded point of a bone. It also refers to a nodule attached to bone, mucous membrane (moist layer lining parts of the body), or skin. The term tubercle is less commonly used to refer to skin irritation resulting from a tuberculosis (TB) infection.

What are the 3 shoulder muscles?

The deltoid muscle is the main muscle of the shoulder. It consists of three muscle heads: the anterior deltoid, lateral deltoid, and posterior deltoid.

What is Conoid tubercle?

The conoid tubercle also known as the coracoid tuberosity (not to be confused with the coracoid process of the scapula) is a bony prominence on the inferior surface of the lateral third of the clavicle.

What is the lesser tubercle?

: a prominence on the upper anterior part of the end of the humerus that serves as the insertion for the subscapularis — compare greater tubercle.

Which of the following is classified as an axial muscle?

The axial muscles include the muscles of the tail, trunk, and eyeballs as well as a group of muscles called hypobranchial muscles, which separate and migrate from the others during development.

Where is the greater tubercle?

The greater tuberosity is the prominent area of bone at the top of the humerus and is the attachment for the two large, powerful rotator cuff muscles - supraspinatus and infraspinatus. It is injured/fractured in a fall by either landing directly onto the side of your shoulder or landing with your arm outstretched.

What attaches lesser tuberosity?

The lesser tuberosity is much smaller, and more medially located on the bone. It only has an anterior surface. It provides attachment for the last rotator cuff muscle – the subscapularis.

What attaches to glenoid tubercle?

The glenoid tubercles serves as attachment points for the long heads of the biceps brachii and the triceps brachii muscles.

What does the tubercle do?

In the human skeleton, a tubercle or tuberosity is a protrusion that serves as an attachment for skeletal muscles. The muscles attach by tendons, where the enthesis is the connective tissue between the tendon and bone.

What is the significance of Lisfrenic tubercle?

sca·lene tu·ber·cle

a small spine on the inner edge of the first rib, giving attachment to the scalenus anterior muscle, lying between and thus demarcating the grooves for the subclavian artery (anteriorly) and vein (posteriorly).

Is tubercle and granuloma the same?

…the granulomas formed are called tubercles. Granulomas also typically arise from fungal infections, and they are present in schistosomiasis, syphilis, and rheumatoid arthritis. … sealed up in hard, nodular tubercles.

How important is the brachialis?

Hidden from view (and slightly harder to pronounce), the brachialis is the primary mover of elbow flexion. ... Your move: Although the classic curl works your brachialis, it's a poor choice for building this underrated muscle, because the underhand grip allows it to share the load with your biceps.

Is the brachialis visible?

Like the biceps brachii, the origin of the brachialis is on the humerus bone and it inserts on the radius bone. Parts on the brachialis can be seen peeking out from under the biceps brachii, especially lower on the arm.

How do you find the lesser tubercle?

You should be able to feel your palpating finger dropping into the bicipital groove as it passes under your finger pads (C). As you continue to move the client's arm passively into lateral rotation, you will then feel the lesser tubercle under your fingers, just medial to the bicipital groove (D).

Can you palpate the rotator cuff?

Palpate this area in the front, on the side, and in the back, and note any tenderness, which can be seen with rotator cuff tendonitis, impingement, or rotator cuff tear. Examine the posterior aspect of the glenohumeral joint, which is located underneath of the infraspinatus and teres minor muscles.

Which joint is in shoulder?

The glenohumeral joint is the one most people think of as the shoulder joint. It is formed where a ball (head) at the top of the humerus fits into a shallow cuplike socket (glenoid) in the scapula, allowing a wide range of movement.
