1 : the condition or an instance of not being homogeneous. 2 : a part that is not homogeneous with the larger uniform mass in which it occurs especially : a localized collection of matter in the universe.

What is inhomogeneous in medical terms?

An MRI term for the lack of homogeneity or uniformity in a main magnetic field.

What is homogeneous in your own words?

What does homogeneous mean? Homogeneous most generally means consisting of parts or elements that are all the same. Something that is homogeneous is uniform in nature or character throughout. Homogeneous can also be used to describe multiple things that are all essentially alike or of the same kind.

What is another name of homogeneous?

Another name for a homogeneous mixture is a solution. Solutions are made by dissolving a solute into a solvent.

Is heterogeneity good or bad?

Heterogeneity and its opposite, homogeneity, refer to how consistent or stable a particular data set or variable relationship are. Having statistical heterogeneity is not a good or bad thing in and of itself for the analysis; however, it's useful to know to design, choose and interpret statistical analyses.

What is an example of heterogeneity?

A heterogeneous mixture is a mixture of two or more compounds. Examples are: mixtures of sand and water or sand and iron filings, a conglomerate rock, water and oil, a salad, trail mix, and concrete (not cement).

What is called heterogeneous?

Heterogeneous most generally means consisting of different, distinguishable parts or elements. The word is used in a more specific way in the context of chemistry to describe a mixture consisting of two or more different substances or the same substance in different phases of matter (such as ice and liquid water).

What is ventilation inhomogeneity?

and is essentially a measure of how much ventilation is required to clear the FRC. When an individual tidal breath from the LCI test is graphed, it looks similar to a standard single-breath N2 washout: and can be similarly subdivided into phase I (dead space washout), phase II (transition) and phase III (alveolar gas).

How do you say inhomogeneity?

1. in-ho-mo-gene-ity.
2. in-hoh-muh-juh-nee-i-tee. Maci Littel.
3. in-homo-gen-eity. Tasneem Herbst.

What is nonhomogeneous?

: made up of different types of people or things : not homogeneous nonhomogeneous neighborhoods the nonhomogenous atmosphere of the planet a nonhomogenous distribution of particles.

What is inhomogeneous material?

Abstract. Spatially and temporally distributed in deformable materials, inhomogeneous deformation is a most ubiquitous phenomenon in deformation-based materials processing. Actually, homogeneous deformation only ideally exists in the theoretical assumption made for simplified analysis of deformation operations.

What is inhomogeneous densities?

Inhomogeneous pulmonary artery density. Inhomogeneous Pulmonary Artery Density. The density of the left and right pulmonary artery should be similar. If one is more dense than the other, it suggests that there is a lesion in front of or behind that artery.

What is the meaning of Echotexture?

(ĕk′ō-tĕks-chŭr) The characteristic pattern or structure of tissue layers as seen during ultrasonic imaging.

What is difference between homogeneity and heterogeneity?

In most technical applications homogeneous means that the properties of a system are the uniform throughout the entire system; heterogeneous (also inhomogeneous) means that the properties change within the system. Any system with two phases like ice and water are said to be heterogeneous.

What are the 10 examples of homogeneous?

• Sea water.
• Wine.
• Vinegar.
• Steel.
• Brass.
• Air.
• Natural gas.
• Blood.

Is coffee a homogeneous mixture?

You pour the coffee in your cup, add milk, add sugar, and stir everything together. The result is a uniform cup of caffeinated goodness. Each sip should taste and look the same. This is an example of a homogeneous mixture.

Why is heterogeneity bad in research?

The presence of substantial heterogeneity in a meta-analysis is always of interest. On the one hand, it may indicate that there is excessive clinical diversity in the studies included, and that it is inappropriate to derive an estimate of overall effect from that particular set of studies.

Is a high I squared good?

I have no problem with this :) 85% is HG is too High. If SR/MA you are refering to is addressing a clinical important issue then the interpretation should be done carefully. For clinical decision making HG of < 50% is considered good.

How is heterogeneity calculated?

The classical measure of heterogeneity is Cochran's Q, which is calculated as the weighted sum of squared differences between individual study effects and the pooled effect across studies, with the weights being those used in the pooling method.

What are two synonyms homogeneous?

• alike.
• comparable.
• compatible.
• consistent.
• equal.
• same.
• solid.
• uniform.

Is not a homogeneous mixture?

A heterogeneous mixture is simply any mixture that is not uniform in composition — it's a non-uniform mixture of smaller constituent parts. ... You can find many examples of heterogeneous mixtures in solid, liquid and gaseous form throughout nature.

What is the opposite homogeneous?

Opposite of consisting of parts all of the same kind. heterogeneous. different. disparate. dissimilar.
